BASKETBALL (2024)

I value small studies for their ability to distill complex ideas. Basketball I & II examines our relationship with this object while probing deeper questions of human survival.

This mini-series consists of two ceramic sculptures shaped like basketballs—symbols of sport, adrenaline, and cooperation. Beyond the game, they embody success and failure, a binary deeply ingrained in popular culture’s obsession with competition. Yet in a dystopian future, where survival eclipses ambition, these ideals may lose all relevance.

Here, the basketball is no longer in motion. It is sunken, decayed, and overgrown—fused with its surroundings. Stripped of function, it becomes a hybrid of the natural and synthetic, confronting an uncertain future where progress and achievement are no longer measures of human worth.
